wow.

let me reiterate.

wow.

you know seeger’s.  one of only two mobil travel guide five-star restaurants in atlanta.  one of only 14 in the country.  well rumors of the demise of seeger’s* made me realize that i just needed to get out and try it.  i’m a food junkie and this is the place if you are one of those in atlanta.

sab was game, so she accompanied me on one of the best meals of my life.  honestly, only my meal at daniel is in the same universe and that is such rarified air that comparison isn’t really possible.

service impeccable.  food perfect.  atmosphere amazing as there are only about twelve tables in the place.

much like the sufjan stevens concert, it’s almost to difficult to describe.  i won’t do the food justice so i am not even going to try.

sure it’s gonna cost.  but if you love food and can swing it, this is something you must do.

and that’s why god made credit anyway, right?

as part of the whole marathon training thing i am really trying to pay attention to what i am eating and my mood. im using this cool little food log the roomie made and have it up on the web on google spreadsheets (which is some stuff you really have to check out btw) so i can update it from the mac at home at the dell at work. as you can see i am really not doing as well as i should.

breakfast. that’s my problem. i just can’t seem to bring myself to eat it consistenly. i’m trying though. i mean how silly is it to be training for a marathon and not be eating enough?

oh, if you look closely you will notice that kk and i took advantage of the eat to live promotion at piebar last night. awesome. i had the wild mushroom pizza for the first time. incredible. at tha peanut butter bar is such a good dessert. you have two days left to not miss this promo.

or you can just email with an excuse to go to piebar and i’ll just meet ya’ there. seriously, it takes like nothing to convince me to go there.

love the place.

wow, the allergies are killing me and have made me too drowsy this week, but i need to just tell you that i ate at pura vida on north highland on wednesday.  wow.  incredible food.  some of the best tapas i have had.  one of the dishes i had was a special and it was sturgeon prepared with a chorizo and potato sauce.

it was incrdible.  the hanger steak is always a tapa favorite and done amazing here too.

atmosphere is great as well.  small restaraunt with tables well spaced out so its great for conversation.

check it out.  very good.

did i mention how much i hate allergies?

i went out with my firends russ and julie to the vortex in l5p last night (a couple of pictures courntey took with my slvr here, honestly to lazt to put them in the post). good time with some really cool people. suprisingly the second time this weekend i have eaten at the vortex, which is just fine, because it truly is one of my favorite places. also, since it is always getting written up in atlanta magazine or the ajc and has a big skull for a door it is a great place to spot suburban tourists :-) i had the big blue buffalo burger both time, because it could possibly be the best burger on the planet.

but i digress.

we went over to russ and julie’s place after dinner to chat for a while and amongst the various topics that came up, somehow, someway i brought up super dave osborne. and can you believe, not a single person there had ever heard of super dave. i was in shock. total, unadulteraed shock.

please tell me someone out there remembers super dave.

the paterfamilias (that’s dad for those of you that went to duh-luth high) was in town tonight so i decided to make him my guinea pig to try out crave in the east atlanta villiage. i have been wanting to try it, ever since someone sent me a write-up it got in of all places daily candy. that and its new and in the eav and i love my neighborhood so i like to try anything willing to open here.

i must say i was suitably impressed. it was of course moder-retor decor (like every cool new restaraunt) minimalist with enough color to be okay for the eav. we had andouille queso as an app, a good combo and something i highliy reccomend. after that i had short ribs served over jalapeno grits (did they steal the chef from agave?) the ribs were okay, but the grits we awesome. wow. i wish they had brought me a whole plate of them.

all in all, a good restaraunt and a nice touch of modern and a bit upscaled for the villiage.

so i heard this over at metroblogging atlanta. apparently the owner’s of moe’s and mama fu’s have bought the flying biscuit. the plan, it seems is to franchise them and open them everywhere. i love the biscuit and i hope they keep the same quality ingredients and atomsphere, but i have to say i am a bit saddened by this.

i suppose i could jsut keep my fingers crossed that it a hoax.

or get used to ‘welcome to the flying biscuit’ screamed at high-volume.

god forbid they ever get their hands on the thumbs up diner.

my buddy, kk, showed up out of the woodworks last night. it was nice to see him, he has been working like crazy along with other things (no comment) and i pretty much hadn’t seen him in over a month. to celebrate his reemergence my roommate denise, kevin and i all went to six feet under on memorial drive across from the oakland cemetery. if you have never been you have to check it out. great seafood and an amazing atmosphere. its authentic grunginess, not one of those places that pretends. get the alligator bites as an appetizer. even thought ehri 10 bucks they are more than worth it.

i am about 3 weeks into an experiement of getting up by 6:30 every weekday and keeping my house clean. most of you know that these are pretty incredible shifts for me, since i love to sleep and am in geenral a mess. anyway, i have met with amazing success. i’ve been journaling my progress on 43things, so i’ll spare you all the details. but wow, what a difference it has made in m qol. honestly, i have found that coming home to a clean living space really puts me in a much better mood. go figure. and as for the early thing, its just nice not to be in a rush in the morning. and on telecommuting days i have plenty of time to wake-up before i start working.

may is a very introspective month for me. two huge dates, may 1 (the anniversary of my last drink) and may 24 (my birthday.) have been spending time taking stock of the last year. crazy. it has been one of the most challenging, difficult years of my life. probably way to much to write about this morning.

anyway, thats about enough random musings for a tuesday morning. back to the powerpoint.

sts at the earl

i accompanied my roommate and her friend molly over to the east atlanta beer festival yesterday. now to my friends in the east atlanta merhcant’s association, we need to have a chat about this event. better music, more to do besides beer. as the designated sober person if i had actually had to pay $25 for a ticket i would have been a bit miffed. also, the food was almost non-existent, which was suprising for an area of the city with so many great restaraunts.

that being said, the place was quite packed and i am sure brought a lot of business to the villiage.

what i did notice were a whoe bunc of ‘suburban tourists’ or ‘st’s hangin around the eav. suburban tourists are the otp people that come into the city to go touring and ‘experience’ the urban life. you will often see them in places that atlanta magazine or the ajc have written up as being ‘hot’ or ‘local’ or ‘secret.’ for example one of my favorite places to ‘st watch’ is the vortex in l5p.

this picture is a great actual catch of st’s in the wild at the earl. if you look close enough you can see that she has ordered an appletini…at the earl. def st’s.

i met my cousin louise at piebar for dinnner last night (i love my cousins too), and i just want to reiterate how much i love the place.

while waiting at the bar i ordered antipasta consisting of cappacola, prosciutto, gorgonzola cheese, artichoke and olive.  don’t ask me where they source the stuff from, but the only place i know to eat fresher italina meat outside of italy is fritti.  the olives and artichoke were so fresh that i had to stop myself from ordering more.

after louise arrived and we ordered i had what is the best pepperoni pizza in the world as well as the rabbit and bbq pizza.  now, even thought my friend sara would accuse me of killing the easter bunny, the rabbit pizza is amazing.  something about the gamey quality of the rabbit meat that just goes well with bbq sauce.

the point being, if oyu haven’t yet, get yourself to piebar.

not to expensive either, btw.

my buddy russ and i finally got together for our perusal of various places in atlanta to eat.  tonight’s choice was cherry in midtown.  as were sitting down and discussing what we wanted to order, my roommate called and decided to join us.  i liked cherry.  good ambience and decent sushi.  cool decor.  denise said her martinis were good, albeit $9.50, so if that’s you thing it would be well suited for you.

after that we decided to leave and go to the highlander pub, where we played air hockey and watched some very interesting characters come out of the woodworks (think dressed like and maybe professional girls and perhaps on some substances.)  it was at this point that my natural snobbishness came out and prompted the decision to craft the sign one night, referenced in the post below.

if you have never been to the highlander, worth a trip.  its in midtown promenade.  check it out.  if you are a snob like me it will scare you :-0

all in all a good night.  good food, good friends and of course, air hockey.
